What is an Epoch?
An Epoch refers to a defined time period used to describe the settlement phase in mechanisms like transactions and staking within the Huione Chain. It can be likened to a "round" or "period" in a sports game, where specific tasks are completed before moving on to the next round.
During each Epoch, the blockchain system carries out essential activities such as:
Block Generation: New blocks are created and added to the blockchain.
Transaction Verification: Transactions are confirmed and validated.
Reward Distribution: Incentives are allocated to participants (like miners or stakers).
At the conclusion of an Epoch, adjustments may occur, including changes in participants and updates to the system's state. This cyclical process helps maintain the blockchain's operation, ensuring that all transactions are processed, verified, and that rewards are distributed accordingly.
Each Epoch has a set duration or is defined by the generation of a certain number of blocks. For example, once the system has completed 100 such Epochs, it signifies that the total count has reached 100. Epochs are typically numbered sequentially to keep track of this progression, and the system automatically assigns numbers each time an Epoch concludes until the count reaches 100.
This structured approach is crucial for the effective functioning of blockchain networks, facilitating regular updates and ensuring all participants are fairly compensated for their contributions.
